The Interior CAD Guy

Case Study:

Sean is a solo freelance interior CAD technician, AKA the guy you need to take care of the beautiful, technical and very necessary drawings when constructing a new space. He allows design teams to focus on what they do best - design - without worrying about how to communicate the technical elements of costing and building to clientsโ€™ needs.

Service: Website in a Week (alongside branding by Copper Moth Design and copywriting/photography by Capture Your Spark)
Platform: Squarespace
Website: theinteriorcadguy.com

The Problem

With many years of freelancing under his belt and a specific and unique job title, Sean needed a website that highlighted his approach and services thoroughly. Sean came to me in the process of figuring out how to make his brand concrete and โ€˜more himโ€™ with what he described as an awful website. During our disco call, I explained what he would need to achieve his goal before working with me - solid branding, photos and copy - and I put him in touch with my collaborators, Charlotte from Copper Moth Studio and Lauren from Capture My Spark to see if theyโ€™d click.

Some key goals for the website:

  • Clearly explain what Sean's specialist role is, his process and how it helps design teams (as he works across industries)

  • Keep the user experience and visual story simple

  • Ensure his website projects his vibe and personality

  • Easily guides potential clients to contact him

The client wanted:

A simple website that is both technical and full of personality

Seanโ€™s dream was to have a website with a brand that describes his vibe, showcases his technical expertise as an interior CAD designer, and explains how he works with clients remotely.

The Solution

As a team, we set to work! With Charlotteโ€™s clean, technical branding and Laurenโ€™s concise copywriting and fantastic brand photos, I created a brand new 5-page website full of simple animations and illustrations. I used Seanโ€™s new key brand colour - the blue found in his technical drawings - to punch up the otherwise simple design and focused on creating an easy-to-follow customer journey highlighting Seanโ€™s expertise, services and personality.

Now Sean has a simple website that:

  • Engages visitors with clean animations and illustrations

  • Conveys his vibe and what itโ€™s like to work with him

  • Illustrates his expertise and services clearly

  • Presents his robust portfolio in an organised way

  • Guides potential clients to โ€˜keep in touchโ€™ and book a call when theyโ€™re ready via targeted CTAs

โ€œHannah's checklists and templates throughout the process were awesome and really helped establish everything Hannah would actually need on file to design one of her fabulous websites. This was particularly useful at the start where not only were the gaps in my knowledge filled, but also gaps in my network.

Hannah was also able to put me in touch with a graphic designer/photographer/copywriter that she works with. I ended up using them and they did a great job too. The final result is awesome, I love my new website and as a freelancer it is just perfect. I am picky and a bit of a control freak and there really wasn't much feedback I could give other than awesome awesome awesome!โ€
